Majamaja offers the pioneer visitors a modern, comfortable, sophisticated yet modest place to experience a thoughtfully designed off-grid accommodation and enjoy the varying seasons and landscapes of the Helsinki archipelago.

Book your stay

The bookings for the 2024 season can be made via this booking page for one night, with a minimum of two nights required for weekend check-ins (on Fridays and Saturdays). Nevertheless, we warmly recommend staying a minimum of two nights for the full experience. Kindly note that it is possible to combine day packs to book longer stays without any issues.

The rental season for 2024 runs from April 5th until November. In case you have any questions, feel free to reach out to helsinki@majamaja.com.

Self-Service Off-Grid Retreat

At Majamaja, we believe in the beauty of self-reliance. Kindly note that we don’t have a physical reception on-site. However, our team is just a message or call away to assist you with any questions or concerns. Your journey begins by accessing your cabin through our easy-to-follow self-check-in process. After booking, detailed instructions will be sent to you before your arrival. 

Check-In

The check-in time is at 16:00, and check-out is on the following day at 12:00.

Pricing

The pricing for the 2024 season is from 195€ per night per Majamaja house (1-3 persons). Bed sheets, cleaning service, and taxes are included in the price.

You’ll find everything you need within your designer cabin, including equipped minimalist kitchens and modern amenities. Each cabin include: bedding for 1-3 people (1x double bed + 1x wall-integrated single bed), mattresses by Tempur for the best possible sleeping experience, wall-integrated dining table (or work desk) set-up with 2 chairs, small kitchenette facility with a stove, fridge and running water, shower, dry eco-toilet, and outdoor patio overlooking the sea.

Privacy in the cabins

We currently operate four cabins in the village. It is good to note while the cabins are quite close to each other (as you can see in the pictures), there is a high-level of privacy and an unobstructed sea-view inside each cabin.

Majamaja stands for self-sufficiency. You’ll find everything you need within your designer cabin, including equipped minimalist kitchens and modern amenities. The surrounding wilderness of the Helsinki archipelago offers a distinct opportunity for quiet reflection and close-to-nature adventures. We take pride in our commitment to eco-friendly practices, and as an off-grid destination, we are solely based on solar power. Please be mindful of our off-grid utilities and use electricity and water sparely during your stay.

Getting Here

The address of the retreat is Vuorilahdentie 5, 00870 Helsinki, Finland. You can reach it by public transportation, car, taxi, or by bike from central Helsinki.

There’s a small parking area available on site free-of-charge. For the public transport connection, first, take a metro heading east and get off at “Herttoniemi” metro station. From there, catch bus number 86 towards Santahamina. Get off at the bus stop “Hevossalmentie,” then turn right onto “Vuorilahdentie,” and walk for 5 minutes to reach Majamaja. Please check the timetables and instructions on the Helsinki public transport company HSL website here: HSL Website. Please note that public transportation tickets need to be purchased in advance from any R-kioski shop, HSL ticket automat in any metro station, or from the HSL mobile application.

Reservation and cancellation policy

As an independent, locally run accommodation and experience provider, we kindly want to remind you about our general reservation and cancellation policy:

– A reservation fee of 20% of your total fee will be charged when making a booking/reservation. The full amount of your payment is charged 30 days prior to arrival. 

– Your reservation can be rescheduled up to 30 days prior to arrival. No refunds will be processed for cancellations that are made less than 30 days from the arrival.

Food Packages (currently unavailable). You may use local food delivery services or self-cooking option.

Our food baskets are carefully curated from locally sourced ingredients for a delicious experience for two.

Our offering:

  • Breakfast basket for two including a variety of delicious breakfast items (40€)
  • Breakfast basket for two mornings is available for a special price of 65€
  • Picnic dinner basket for two (90€) including locally-sourced starter snack, main meal, dessert and drinks.

Meal baskets can be added to your cart during booking and they will be delivered to your majamaja before check-in.

Sauna

Sauna

If you would like to book a sauna during your stay, we occasionally have the opportunity to book one for you at the neighboring property of Villa Wuorio. Their wooden heated sauna is just a short walk away and of good quality.

The sauna is available for morning rentals, making it the perfect way to start your day. The rental price for private use of the sauna is €120 per hour.

Morning sauna (10 A.M. – 11 A.M.) can be booked during your booking process. Email us at helsinki@majamaja.com  to request other sauna times.

Nature Excursions

Taiga Times offers two different all-inclusive private tours for Majamaja guests. Both excursions are designed to provide you with an authentic, safe, and memorable experience with a professional guide.

Choose to hike through the memorable Taiga forest with a campfire barbecue and traditional Finnish smoke sauna visit afterward for the ultimate relaxation experience.
Or alternatively, take a serene and relaxing nature walk in a Finnish national park, followed by a lakeside lunch and an afternoon stroll through the enchanting old town of Porvoo.

Make the most of your time in Helsinki with this unique experience. Experience the relaxing and refreshing effects of the Taiga forest during a hike, followed by a campfire barbecue and a visit to a traditional Finnish smoke sauna!

During this private experience, a professional wilderness guide will lead you through the forested trails of Sipoonkorpi National Park, stopping along the way to teach you about Finnish wildlife and nature. The trail leads to a rocky vista overlooking a freshwater lake where you’ll enjoy a campfire barbecue. After lunch, continue walking for 6km to the smoke sauna. There, you can relax, swim, and enjoy a traditional Finnish smoke sauna (Note: the sauna is public and mixed, so a bathing suit is required).

Tour time: 11 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.

Tour includes:

  • private round-trip transportation from Majamaja
  • a professional English-speaking guide
  • traditional Finnish BBQ lunch

Experience the best of both worlds with this private tour! Enjoy a relaxing hike in a Finnish national park followed by an afternoon stroll through the enchanting old town of Porvoo.

In the national park, we will walk along a maintained nature trail and enjoy a traditional Finnish-style lunch by a lake. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and explore. After a refreshing taste of nature, the tour will continue to the magical old town of Porvoo, a small and colorful village lined with cobblestone streets. Visit the Porvoo Cathedral, Town Square, Handicraft Market, and Porvoo’s famous chocolate shop.

Tour time: 10 A.M. – 4 P.M.
